The Beginning of IronHawk CrossFit

I have always had the ability to talk to and connect with people, even when I was a small child.  My first grade teacher marveled as I stood at the door to her classroom and greeted each one of my classmates by name.  This way of being extended into my junior high and highschool years.  I connected with all types of people. I have always enjoyed knowing a bit about everyone, their parents’ names, how many siblings they have, what their favorite color is.  You may think that I was an athlete during my school years, that couldn’t be further from the truth.  My fearlessness and ability to stand in front of people landed me in the arts.  I didn’t mind being on stage at all, I didn’t realize it at the time but when I discovered fitness as an adult these qualities would mesh together to make me a pretty great coach.

It was the year 2017, my partner and I had just moved from central to northwestern Montana.  I had what I thought was going to be my dream job at my favorite endurance sport nutrition company. What I immagined  was going to be a building filled with other endurance athletes looking to help athletes with fueling their exercise, spending lunch hours going on runs, and enjoying free post workout protein shakes in the kitchen turned into a desk job, some days with no lunch break.  The only ideal that came to fruition was the free protein shakes which was sometimes all the nutrition you would have time to consume before returning to your desk to process more internet orders.

As a former personal trainer, group fitness instructor and endurance athlete who dabbled in CrossFit my job rapidly became my worst nightmare.  Unable to exercise and move throughout the day, as I was accustomed to, was doing some serious damage to my wellbeing.  The free supplements weren’t enough of a perk to keep me healthy or happy.  I rapidly gained 25 pounds, felt agitated with my situation and decided I needed an escape plan.  I wanted to return to coaching people and feeling like I was truly making a positive difference in people’s lives. What is better than going back to work for another gym? What will give me the freedom and fulfillment I desire? OPENING MY OWN CROSSFIT BOX OF COURSE!!  My partner was totally on board, it had been his dream to take over his family business and that had fallen through so it was decided.  We were now entrepreneurs, business owners, it couldn’t be that hard right??
